First look at super swish Monkey Island Estate
One of the UK’s hottest hotel openings of 2018 and it just happens to be in Berkshire. Monkey Island Estate in Bray will open its doors in June with 27 luxury rooms, 3 suites and 6 exclusive use properties that promise to be as glam as its big sister the award-winning Gainsborough Bath and Spa.
Monkey Island Estate, which has a colour 800-year history having been playground for kings and queens, aristos and artists, is being transformed into a luxury bolthole by New York-based Champalimaud Design who have created the interiors of some of the best hotels in the world, including the Gainsborough and Hotel Bel Air in LA. Imagine a space dripping in glamour and you’ve nailed it.
My spies tell me, Simpson’s on the Strand Head chef, William Hemming will be putting food on the table, there will be an elegant bar, lounge and whiskey snug. If all that hasn’t got you excited, a bespoke Dutch barge will be moored on the river and transformed into a mini spa with 3 treatment rooms. for you to pamper yourself on the river. It doesn’t get much Muddier than that!
Calling all Masterchefs… The Newbury needs you
Fancy yourself as a Masterchef? Think you can design gastropub fayre? Oh you do? Well let’s crack on then. Muddy award-winning pub, The Newbury, is running charity competition for culinary wizards (pro or amateur chefs, age 16+) to create a signature dish worthy of The Newbury’s a la carte menu. The winner will walk off with £1000 cash, and their creation will become a pub signature. Then every time it’s ordered, £1 will be donated to West Berkshire Mencap. Simply email your recipe, how it’s prepared/cooked, where your ingredients comes from (just so y’know, they love local produce). Make sure you include your name, profession by 30 April. The Hind’s Head on tour
Heston’s Hind’s Head is breaking for the border and heading into London – for one night only. The team will stage a kitchen takeover at Soho staple Quo Vadis, offering a nostalgic menu with the a sprinkling of Heston pizazz . Head Chef Pete Grey’s has curated a special menu for the pop up event on Wednesday 28 March, including braised beef and treacle tart. Book your table – £65pp.
