Hot off the press!
Heard the bubbling news in Berks? You have now. Here's the super-hot goss on private clubs, new boutiques and restaurant openings.
Soho House… in Berkshire!
Soho Farmhouse and Babington House have long been the country boltholes for the cool kids and London crowds, but Soho House is planning to open a new outpost in Lower Basildon. I reckon the revamp of the elegant 18th century Grotto (mentioned by name by Jerome K Jerome in Three Men and a Boat) will be pretty special.
Soho Group has submitted planning permission to turn the riverside mansion, into a 60-bedroom boutique hotel, private members club, spa, outdoor pool and 7 lodges. Watch this space.
Timpany’s on the move
Muddy award-winning boutique Timpany’s is moving to a bigger, brighter, even more beautiful store. It’s a secret shopping spot among stylists, fashionistas and media types, who get palpitations over their immaculate collection of pre-loved designer clothes, accessories and smoking hot must-have handbags.
Owner Antonio will move from their current bijou site in Sunninghill, up the hill to Sunningdale (1a-2 Broomfield Hall Buildings, Sunningdale, Berkshire, SL5 0DH) at the end of next week. If you visited the Christmas pop up, you’ll recognise the location.
Secret stylish workspace
If you work from home, freelance or just need a change of scenery to study, send emails or finish a report, then we have discovered this hottest hot desks in Berkshire. You’re treated to Scandi design, free wifi, power points and comfy sofas. Yup those in the know are heading to Ikea Reading to get a couple of hours of work in. What’s not to love, there’s a free creche, an endless supply of meatballs and you’ll never leave without a bag of tea lights.
Windsor pub reopens
The group behind cool London hotspots like The Marylebone, Clerkenwell & Social and Barsmith in Farringdon is opening its first proper out of towner in Windsor. The Royal Windsor pub on Datchet Road, has undergone a thumbing refurb to will offer freshly cooked food, house-infused cocktails, craft beers, and a resident Dj every Friday and Saturday night – just in time for the Royal Wedding. Soft opening from midday Good Friday.
Coppa load of this
Coppa Club Henley is now officially open following a £1million refurb of the old Strada on Bell St. Decor obsessives (who me? hell yes) will notice a softer, more relaxed interior. Think trendy rattan pendant light, blush pink, midnight blue and sage green upholstered chairs, with shelves stoked with vintage books and beautifully curated log piles.
So I am excited to see if Coppa Club Maidenhead will continue the softer vibes when it open its doors this summer. My moles tell me the Maidenhead restaurant will be ready by June. They are currently beautifying their Chapel Arches riverside location on the ground floor of the Picturehouse.
