Property Flirt: Great Scot! It’s a celeb crib

Right then property pervs it’s time to look through the keyhole of another mega des res in Berkshire, have a poke around and guess how much it’s worth. The winner gets a romantic break with Tom Hiddleton in the Bahamas (*ahem*). Er, maybe not.

Let’ get ready to rumble, here we go.

Forest Lodge is a handsome Victorian country house, opposite Windsor Forest, in the village of Winfield. It’s in a great location, has got that grand country house thing going on, a beautiful garden, surrounded by great schools and has showbiz connections. Ooh, now your intrigued, right?

Drawing room

Originally a Hunting Lodge this grand house is situated opposite Windsor Forest (part of the Crown Estate), which has miles of secluded walks and bridal paths. Don’t know where Winkfield is? Well, it’s about 4 miles from Windsor and 2 miles form Ascot. You are practically neighbours with Her Maj and deliciously in commutersville with excellent road links to both the M4 and M3; plus access to trains into London Paddington from Slough and London Waterloo from Windsor.

But let’s get back to those showbiz connections. Forest Lodge was previously owned by none other than the legendary Scottish comedian Billy Connolly and his wife Pamela Stephenson. It was called ‘Gruntfuttock Hall’ by its previous owners who lived in the house during the 1990’s. Billy named it after a character in a 50s radio comedy programme and the Lodge became widely known by this alternative moniker.

Are you ready to go? Let’s stop pressing our noses against the glass and go and have a nose. As you would expect from a proper with such a rich history is combines period features with modern luxuries to a create show-stopping light, bright and stylish home. Perfect for parties and family life.

Reception hall

You enter the Lodge through a pair of heavy double wooden doors into a hall which opens out into a reception hall with stone fireplace and oak flooring that extends through to the drawing, dining and family rooms. The large kitchen/breakfast room has the country house must-have range cooker, loads of handmade units, granite worksurfaces and a bold limestone floor with under-floor heating.

Breakfast room

As you glide through the downstairs you’ll find four reception rooms, all with fireplaces and oak flooring: the drawing room, with its carved marble fireplace and large bay with French doors out to the manicured rear gardens. There is a cosy family room, elegant dining room and a bright dual aspect sitting room with access to both front and rear gardens and featuring a large roof lantern.

The landscaped lawned gardens are secluded with mature trees, shrub borders and an attractive yew hedge. So naked sunbathing is a possibility here, if that sort of thing floats your boat. If not, hang out on the large paved patio relaaaax with a large rosé and entertain al fresco.

Let’s totter upstairs and check out the bedrooms and bathrooms. On the first floor is a spacious master suite with a deep bay window overlooking the rear gardens, a dressing room and an enormous bathroom with the obligatory ‘ball and claw’ footed bath and separate shower. There are four more bedrooms,

The guest bedroom benefits from an en suite shower room and there are three further bedrooms, one with a charming seating area in the bay window and all with built-in or walk-in wardrobes.

A few last clues that definitely bump up the price, Forest Lodge is surrounded by sporting and recreational facilities including racing at Ascot and Windsor, polo at Smith’s Lawn, golf at Sunningdale and Wentworth, and riding in Windsor Great Park. You’re spoilt for choice on the school front as Winfield is close to some of the best schools in the country – Eton College, Heathfield, St. George’s, Papplewick, Lambrook Haileybury and The American Community School (which offers the International Baccalaureate).

Fancy this handsome brute in your life? Yeah me too (*quietly sobbing*). But how much will it cost you? No cheating – work out the price you think it’s worth, consult, lay your bets and see how close you get. Then check on where your nearest bank is and start planning your raid.
