Tip-top takeaways to see you through lockdown

Restaurants, cafes and bars may be closed right now, but you can still support our brilliant local businesses by ordering a takeaway. Oh go on, if we must...

It’s time to ditch the Domino’s and support your local eateries across Berkshire – roll call, please!


Takeaway pizza

The Beehive At Home, White Waltham – Chef Dominic Chapman is offering gastropub classics to go from his pretty pub – either cooked to order or ready-made for you to heat up at home. The cooked to order menu is a gastropub greatest hits that includes the Beehive burger, fish and chips and Sunday Roast while the ready meals offer Cottage Pie and chicken curry and braised ox cheeks with mash and veg. Order and collect Thursday to Sunday.

Royal Oak, Yattendon – Open Monday to Sunday with a reduced menu of Royal Oak favourites. Three kids dishes, three starters, three mains, pizza and a pud. Simply phone through your order and collect from the window outside. I can highly recommend the ribs.

The Old Boot, Stanford Dingley – this lovely country pub is offering takeaway dishes on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Expect pub classics and a generous Sunday roast. Call or email your order and pick up at your chosen time.

The Blackbird at Bagnor – Chef Dominic Robinson is back with is takeaway offering. This menu is not a tweak of his Michelin Star gastropub menu, but an amped-up, quality takeaway near Newbury. Available for ollection from Thursday to Saturday and a traditional roast can be ordered for collection on Sundays. Simply phone your order in and arrange your collection.

West Berkshire Brewery Taproom in Yattendon – offering a click and collect takeaway menu of pizzas, burgers and salads on Fridays and Saturdays, 12-8pm.

Sit & Sip Wokingham – loosen up lockdown with a little cheer thanks to the artisan tipples of sassy spirits, wonderful wines and craft beer available from the fabulous bottle shop for delivery or collection. Email your orders to

The Last Crumb Caversham – Missing The Last Crumb’s dirty burgers and truffle parmesan fries? *Drool* Wednesday to Saturday, 5pm-8pm, you can place your takeaway order for Click and collect or for local delivery via Deliveroo.

The Merry Kitchen, Chieveley – Jo of The Merry Kitchen is an absolute rock star in the kitchen. While events are on hold she’s offering the most amazing Friday night curry club. Every Monday she posts the menu for that week. Orders must be in by 6pm on Wednesday for collection from Chieveley on Friday or Saturday. Jo’s Friday night food, saved my sanity during lockdown.

The Newbury Pub, Newbury – Newbury’s legendary pub roast is available for takeaway. Choose from three meats or have a little of everything, throw in Yorkies, sides and a pud and you’re say hello to super Sunday. Email your order by 6pm on Fridays – email

The Rose and Crown Winkfield – now offering a takeaway menu Thursday to Sunday (roasts need to be pre-ordered by 6pm Sat) for collection. Vegan and veggies are all catered for. Collection only. Don’t forget your mask.


Coffee shop coffee

Plum and Grain in Newbury – Sisters Hannah and Kathryn have just launched their new cafe and lifestyle shop in the old town hall in Newbury. It’s a beautiful business serving great coffee and snacks with a side order or stylish gifts.

Mrs B’s Kitchen in Newbury – fancy a lemon drizzle and a pie for supper? Clickety click and order online for collection and throw in grocery essentials and snacks too.

Honesty Cafés – Offering a takeaway menu of drinks, sarnies and light lunches. Opening times vary at each Honesty Cafe. Whether you’re visiting Saddleback Farm Shop, Hungerford, Kingsclere, Overton, The Base Greenham Common or Inkpen it’s best to double check they are open the day you visit.

The Collective in Caversham – open for takeaway. Grab yourself a coffee or ice cream milkshake and snag a stylish gift or something for your home while you’re there.

Douai Pavilion Woolhampton – keeping frazzled home cooks sane, Sue and Katie Birch are whipping up takeaway pizzas (add your favourite tipple too) on Friday nights from 5.30-8.30pm (available for pre-order or on the night). They are also offering takeaway Sunday Brunch (8.30am-1.30pm) and this weekend you can get in the festive swing with a milled wine and minced pie.

Gail’s Bakery in Wokingham and Windsor – open for takeaway so you can swing by for coffee, sandwiches and their famous cinnamon buns on the go.

The Blackbird Cafe, Chapel Row – If you’ve missed your morning coffee, Lara at The Blackbird Cafe in Chapel Row is open for takeaway only Tue-Sat. While you’re there you might as well add a sweet and savoury snack to your order too.

Fego Ascot – you can order takeaway brunch, lunch and dinner online from Monday to Saturday between 8.30am to 8pm, and Sundays from 8.30am to 4pm.

Eliane Smiles in Sunningdale and Hungerford – a takeaway menu of delicious, nutritious meals that will balance out the biscuits you’ve eaten in lockdown. Open

Bakedd in Maidenhead – If the smell of freshly baked bread gets your nose twitching like the bisto kid, then head to this Maidenhead’s artisan bakery.currently offering takeaway and local deliveries.

The Pantry in Yattendon – now open for takeaway Monday to Sunday, delicious cakes and pastries, plus sarnies and paninis to go.

Coffee Under Pressure in Reading – two sites, Belgrave Street and St Mary’s Butt, Reading and both are open for takeaway. Need caffeine and a bite to eat? They’re open seven days a week.


Arancini balls in a delicate white dish served as an amuse bouche at Caldesi in Campagna

Roux at Skindles in Maidenhead – Alain Roux’s bistro on the banks of the Thames has a selection of delicious French dishes to eat at home. From Normandy onion soup and mussels to braised beef brisket and burgers. Available Tuesday to Sunday.

L’Ortolan Reading – This one Michelin Star restaurant has a seemingly endless foodie offering. Thursday to Saturday you can choose from L’Ortolan Hampers consisting of pre-prepared dishes (three and six courses available) for you to assemble at home; Meal Of The Day is a delicious three courses that can be delivered or collected (no washing up guaranteed) or set yourself up for a posh Sunday Roast. Just order a min 24hrs in advance, arrange collection and nom nom nom. The set menu is £50pp.

Coppa Club Streatley, Sonning and Maidenhead – whoop whoop, all Coppas are open Wednesday to Sunday if you fancy a takeaway burger, pizza or salad with a side order of bubbles and ice cream.

Caldesi in Campagna – its entire menu is now available takeaway, so you can have the full relaxed fine dining experience from the comfort of your home. There are lots of familiar Italian classics, taken to a new level, each mouthful delivering a sizzling kiss. You can peruse the menu here. Hurley House Hotel, Hurley – a superb sushi menu is available and a very efficient collection system You can order on the day or in advance, pick a collection time and then simply swing into the HH car park where there’s a dedicated counter for contactless, fast pickup. Oh, and if you’re turning off Japanese, they’re also offering the most amazing pizzas.

    For excellent food delivered to your home or for colection , on Fridays , look up the Funghi Club , Heat and Eat. Produced by French chef Laurent Lebeau , formerly of the Red House, Marsh Benham.
