Here we go again. Pubs, restaurants and cafés are forced to close their doors to punters. But panic not, many are switching to takeaway. So ditch the Domino’s and support your local eateries across Berkshire. Roll call, please!
PUBS & RESTAURANTS
The Beehive At Home, White Waltham – Chef Dominic Chapman is offering gastropub classics to go from his pretty pub – either cooked to order or ready-made for you to heat up at home. The cooked to order menu is a gastropub greatest hits that includes the Beehive burger, fish and chips and Sunday Roast while the ready meals offer Cottage Pie and chicken curry and braised ox cheeks with mash and veg. Order and collect Thursday to Sunday.
The Blackbird at Bagnor – Chef Dominic Robinson will be offering his full Michelin star a la carte menu for takeaway. Available for collection on Saturday (5pm-8pm) and Sunday (12pm-2pm). Simply phone (01635 40005) your order in and arrange your drive by.
The Last Crumb Caversham – Don’t miss out on The Last Crumb’s dirty burgers and truffle parmesan fries *Drool*. You can place your takeaway order for Click and collect or for local delivery via Deliveroo.
The Funghi Club, Hungerford but delivers all over Berkshire – Mostly French-inspired dishes made with top quality, premium ingredients. The food is lovingly prepared by Laurent and chilled, ready for you to ‘Heat & Eat’ when you’re ready. You can either collect from Hungerford Park or delivery is available between Marlborough and Slough.
Mirepoix by Dominic Auger, Berkshire – Chef Dom Auger (sous chef at hip London restaurant Scully St James’s) Started his lockdown at-home dining business because sat at home twiddling his knives was quite frankly dangerous. Now he offers the finest fast food packed full of Italian flavour. Simply choose your pasta, add a sauce – throw in some bread for the ultimate mop up – and once delivered it’s ready in minutes. Dom also offers a bespoke three-course at-home meal for two too (£95).
Roux at Skindles in Maidenhead – Alain Roux’s bistro on the banks of the Thames has a selection of delicious French dishes to eat at home. From Normandy onion soup and mussels to braised beef brisket and burgers. Available Tuesday to Sunday.
L’Ortolan Reading – This one Michelin star restaurant is offering L’Ortolan Hampers, consisting of pre-prepared dishes (three and six courses available) for you to assemble at home. Orders are being taken for collection and delivery up to 23 Dec and collection only on 24 Dec. Book 24hrs in advance, arrange collection and nom nom nom.
Caldesi in Campagna – its entire menu is now available takeaway, so you can have the full relaxed fine dining experience from the comfort of your home. There are lots of familiar Italian classics, taken to a new level, each mouthful delivering a sizzling kiss. You can peruse the menu here. Hurley House Hotel, Hurley – a superb sushi menu is available and a very efficient collection system You can order on the day or in advance, pick a collection time and then simply swing into the HH car park where there’s a dedicated counter for contactless, fast pickup. Oh, and if you’re turning off Japanese, they’re also offering the most amazing pizzas.
Plum and Grain in Newbury – Sisters Hannah and Kathryn have just launched their new cafe and lifestyle shop in the old town hall in Newbury. It’s a beautiful business serving great coffee and snacks with a side order or stylish gifts.
Mrs B’s Kitchen in Newbury – fancy a lemon drizzle and a pie for supper? Clickety click and order online for collection and throw in grocery essentials and snacks too.
The Collective in Caversham – open for takeaway. Grab yourself a coffee or ice cream milkshake and snag a stylish gift or something for your home while you’re there.
Douai Pavilion Woolhampton – keeping frazzled home cooks sane, Sue and Katie Birch are whipping up takeaway pizzas (add your favourite tipple too) on Friday nights from 5.30-8.30pm (available for pre-order or on the night). They are also offering takeaway Sunday Brunch (8.30am-1.30pm) and this weekend you can get in the festive swing with a milled wine and minced pie.
Gail’s Bakery in Wokingham and Windsor – open for takeaway so you can swing by for coffee, sandwiches and their famous cinnamon buns on the go.
The Blackbird Cafe, Chapel Row – If you’ve missed your morning coffee, Lara at The Blackbird Cafe in Chapel Row is open for takeaway only Tue-Sat. While you’re there you might as well add a sweet and savoury snack to your order too.
Fego Ascot – you can order takeaway brunch, lunch and dinner online from Monday to Saturday between 8.30am to 8pm, and Sundays from 8.30am to 4pm.
