Pinkies poised for a Christmas afternoon tea. Here’s five of our favourite foodie hangouts to nibble festive fancies in Berkshire.
Coworth Park at Christmas is like stepping into a dreamy winter wonderland. These guys really know how to deck the halls and sprinkle every room with seasonal joy. The attention to detail is second to none – and its award-winning afternoon tea has been given a festive makeover. Expect to tuck into turkey with a sage and apple compote and brie and cranberry sarnies; plus mince pies, Coworth Park’s signature chocolate cube, clementine and ginger choux bun and the most amazing scones. A Christmas Carol Afternoon Tea, The Reading Room, Roseate Hotel, Reading
A grand ol’ mansion house towering over Forbury Gardens, The Roseate is a calm escape from the bustling town centre. Expect roaring fires, traditional finger sandwiches filled with the likes of turkey and cranberry and cheddar and chutney soldier sarnies alongside cranberry macarons, buttery mince pies and warm scones. From £29.50 per person (add Champers for an extra £7pp).
Festive Afternoon Tea, Cliveden House Hotel, Taplow
Bling it on this Christmas at Cliveden House. Dig out your tiara and head to Cliveden House Hotel for a festive afternoon tea with diamonds. This year Cliveden has teamed up with Garrard to create the beautiful Christmas Tree in the Great Hall – and the Festive Afternoon Tea is a gem (£45pp), featuring finger sandwiches, luxurious red velvet cake, adorned with gold leaf, festive pastires and mince pies, served with tea and a glass mulled wine. Once your’ve scoffed the lot, swing by the Garrard pop-up boutique and try on models of some of the most famous tiaras ever created by this famous jeweller
Bubbles Galore Afternoon Tea, The Vineyard Hotel, Stockcross
Pinkies perfectly poised, it’ 5-star all the way. The Vineyard nr Newbury is one of the finest wine hotels in the UK with 30,000 bottles snuggled up in the cellar, 100 of them available by the glass. Woohoo! Throw in a quintessentially English afternoon tea and it’s practically perfect in every way. This is the Pastry Chef’s playground, serving exquisite cakes, scones and the neatest finger sarnies ever. Choose the Champagne wine flight (is there anything else?) or a tea flight experience and your drinks will be paired to each course. *Dabs napkin and starts on the 100 wines*. From £31.50pp. Obviously, we’ll be ordering the Bubbles Galore Afternoon Tea at £47.50.
Winter Afternoon Tea, Oakley Court, Windsor
A simple, classic afternoon tea in a jaw-dropping gothic mansion on the banks of the river in Windsor that’s played hooky as the school in the original 1954 St Trinian’s films. Oakley Court’s afternoon tea swerves the fuss for flavour. It’s all about quality seasonal ingredients and the fruit and veg used is dug up from Oakley’s kitchen garden. The standard tea is £29.50pp, but we’re getting ready for take off and will be adding the sparkling wine flight for an extra £12. You’ll also receive a free glass of Santome Prosecco or a ticket for a tour of Windsor & Eton Brewery when you book Monday to Thursday throughout Dec, Jan and Feb.
