Silchester House

Muddy says: Silchester House on the Berkshire-Hampshire border is a bucolic bolthole that ticks all the ‘I do’ boxes – relaxed, romantic and ready to party. All the ingredients for a top notch wedding.

It’s hard to find a small wedding venue that ticks all the ‘I do’ boxes, but I reckon Silchester House on the Berkshire/ Hampshire border is ‘the one’. Romantic, stylish and  homely. But there’s more. This Victorian manor, between Reading and Basingstoke, is set in picturesque grounds with epic countryside views – Silchester House is well up for a partaaaay!

In fact, as an exclusive-use wedding venue (for 20 years, no less) is the ideal place for an intimate, romantic, house-party-style wedding. Sweep down the gravel drive, walk through the weighty oak doors of this creamy dreamy house, grab a glass of fizz and enjoy the fun.

If you’re thinking of an indoor ceremony, the elegant Music Room accommodates up to 92 guests (180 during the evening reception). Then relax and enjoy the luxe surroundings as you and your guests spill out into the different reception rooms with their roaring fires, abundant oak and relaxed vibes.

If you have your heart set an English Country Garden wedding, no problem, the gazebo on the perfectly manicured lawn is also registered for weddings if you want to feel the love al fresco instead.

As  you’d expect of a wedding venue specialist, there’s in-house catering, online and personal wedding planner, live music on offer and even fireworks to end the celebrations on a high (consent required). No need to leave the venue either at the end of the night – there’s a four-poster bridal suite and further 13 boutique bedrooms plus a swimming pool and tennis court. You’ll never want to leave.
