Lather up!

The Soap Co’s products have caught my eye, but this ethical beauty brand has substance and style.

As I type, my hands smell so delicious, I have to keep stopping to sniff them. Which is a bit weird, admittedly, but that’s because they’re slathered in The Soap Co‘s gorgeous white tea hand lotion, which also comes in citrus or black poppy and wild fig and contains a hefty hit of moisturizing cocoa butter.

What, don’t you ever balance your beauty products on your garden branches?

Their ethics are pretty fragrant too – 80 percent of The Soap Co’s 105 employees are disabled or disadvantaged, with the company part of social enterprise, Clarity. How brilliant is that? Many are visually impaired – hence the Braille lettering that’s incorporated into the minimalist black and white packaging design.

They also source all their ingredients in the UK, don’t add colourings or parabens, and use recycled materials to make their bottles and packaging, which can then in turn be recycled. It’s unusual to find a beauty brand that’s as stylish as it is ethical, so it’s a big (and well-moisturized) thumbs up from us.

It’s a bijou range – hands only thus far, with soaps, washes and lotions in chic monochrome graphic packaging that looks cool on your bathroom sink. Nothing is scarily expensive – £12 for a big 300ml hand lotion and £7 for a bar of soap. What’s not to like? Anyway, I’m off to, um, smell my fingers some more.
