Christmas rapping

Watch out John Lewis! IKEA's and M&S's Christmas adverts are bonkers and brilliant! Watch, laugh and tell us your favourite.

Isn’t it funny how we’ve all come to expect brilliant adverts for Christmas? In my house we are obsessed enough to rate the biggies (current front-runner Argos, woeful turkey Iceland). The biggie, of course, is John Lewis, which is being so coy as not to show the tiniest bit of leg – we’re not even sure when it’s going to run yet (humph). But being fickle and easily pleased, now I’m not sure I care – because M&S and IKEA have just stormed it with their ads and I’m placing my bets right now that they’ll be the best of the fest. Shall we get them to fight it out?

In the blue corner, M&S has had the most startling makeover, using House of Pain’s 1992 hip hop track Jump Around to showcase its jumper range in a way that will horrify anyone with a blue rinse (which is kind of the point)  – the woollies take on a life of their own, pulling their wearers into moves that would be right at home at the Muddy Christmas party.

In the red corner, IKEA have played it for laughs (and there are plenty), with their first ever Christmas ad – various trinkets in a family’s lounge complain about the disgusting state of the house by rapping a grime track (an original by MC D Double E). It airs tonight (8 Nov) for the first time during Gogglebox on Channel 4 – reactions are bound to be priceless. No doubt we’ll all know the rap by December.

Which one’s your favourite? I’m veering towards IKEA but, ewwwww, it’s too close to call!

Not gonna lie, I loved the Ikea ad, but I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve seen them all. Rach x
