One of the big benefits of Muddy tottering its way into so many counties (er, 17 since you asked!) is that we have a raft of on-the-ground experts, squirrelling out the coolest, most useful stuff for the rest of us to plunder. Case in point – beach cottages. Thought about renting one this summer? Yeah me too. So allow me to lay before you a sandy smorgasbord from the Muddy regional editors – 14 beautiful beach properties for the bucket and spade brigade.
Beach holidays in Britain always come with that anxious niggle at the back of your head – will it tank down for the whole week? Well, how about an inland lake or river holiday as an alternative? The Muddy editors who happen go to be landlocked (*sob**) have scoured their counties for some stonking rental properties with their own little piece of liquid heaven to tempt you throughout spring and summer. Tempted?
STAY IN… BERKSHIRE
River Arts Club, Maidenhead
Who needs the coast when you can have the mighty Thames?
We do try to push the boat out on prizes for you to win, but we’ve had we had one so delicious it was literally bobbing over the water. But check out this lakeside view!
Another Place, The Lake in Ullswater in the Lake District is the most ridiculously gorgeous, luxurious, stylish hotel we’ve seen in a very long time and we’ve nabbed a two night stay, worth nearly £800, for one lucky Muddy reader (and your plus one obvs).
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching (eek) and it always conjures up a certain dread. Part of me doesn’t want to be told that Mr Muddy and I should be gazing into each others eyes on demand, the other part longs for him to want to lavish me with gifts and whisk me off my feet in a rom-com stylee. It’s a fine line between fabulous and forced. Add into the mix the need to drink too much too quickly in celebration of being child-free for a few hours, while trying not to kill the vibes by voicing irritations about… well just about anything.
Beat the January blues and head west to stay at one the UK’s hottest hotels. Our brand spanking new Muddy Devon editor, Sharon, managed to have her arm twisted (just this once) to spend the night at Glazebrook House – with a bags of curio cool. Perfect for a romantic break, here is Sharon’s review…
I’m going to have to learn to get a grip when I blog about hotels.
Guarantee your place for music and mayhem
In January when the weather has turned totally pants and half-term break feels forever away, I take solace by gorging myself on potential holidays. Hot summer holidays in exotic climes with Rufus Sewell (if he’ll only stop moaning on and on about how he desires me), cool city breaks with Mr Muddy, gorgeous cottages in rugged climes for walking hols with my galpals and for family time in the UK, something luxe but active, rural but not too holiday campish.
I think it’s only right and proper to begin 2017 with a Michelin nosh up and a night away, don’t you?
A Heston pub, part of his Fat Duck group in Bray, The Crown is a gorgeously atmospheric 16th century building with all the requisite nooks, crannies, fireplaces and higgledy-piggledy spaces, with food that’s exquisite as you’d expect.
You and your significant other can scoff three courses, an aperitif and a bottle of house wine on Muddy Stilettos, then stroll – or possibly roll – down the road to the luxury self-catering Christmas Cottage, one of three Bray Cottages, for your zzzs any time before 31 March, excluding Valentine’s Day.
