Need a cheeky spa break? Me too! Oh how I love to waft about in a fluffy robe, float in a bubbly pool and enjoy the power of a good facial to catch a few zzzz. But that pleasure went to Sarah, aka Miss Muddy Gloucestershire, who checked in to Whatley Manor hotel and spa and hasn’t been seen since… Hmm I wonder why?
The Muddy visage loves a facial.
Looking for a gorgeous holiday stop for families or larger groups? Hang on, I’ll just get out my magician’s hat and wand and, er… abracadabra! The best rental properties across 18 counties, conjured up by your in-the-know Muddy editors.
The Coach House, Ascot
Pass me a kaftan and a glass of fizz (make that a bottle), I feel the need to waft.
Last week saw an historic gathering of power players for a day of diplomatic discussions. EU leaders discussing the terms of Brexit? Nah, I’m talking Muddy Stiletto’s national conference, obviously! With your local superblog now boasting 18 (yes flippin eighteen!) regional editions, us editors convened en masse in the smoke to um, drink quite a lot of prosecco.
Our venue for the day was The Harcourt, a chic Grade 2-listed, five-storey Georgian townhouse which is a bar, restaurant, meeting and private dining space – and is now officially our new favourite London haunt.
Kids dropped off, we were wheel spinning out of my brother’s drive, as we sped off to the Hurley House Hotel. Mr Muddy and I were just a teeny bit excited to be staying at this chic boutique stay in the outrageously picturesque riverside village of Hurley in Berkshire. It’s not that we don’t get out much, that’s simply not possible on Muddy, but a whole 24 hours of proper grown up conversation, a night of copious gins and bit of R&R is exactly what these two frazzled parents needed.
Have you given a thought to summer camping yet? Those yurts, lodges and cool glampy sites get booked up waaaaay in advance, so to give you the early heads up, here are the 25 best places to start your search, as chosen by the people in the know – the regional Muddy editors.
Hollington Park Clamping ,Woollen Hill, nr Newbury
If you love the idea of getting back to basics, but can’t quite bring yourself to sleep on a deflating air mattress, pitch up at Hollington Park Glamping near Newbury.
Love a luxe break? A sucker for heritage holiday rentals? Or is it all about the location? They all have their place but, for pure fun value, there’s little that can beat a really quirky stay. The Muddy editors in counties from Cornwall to Norfolk, Kent to Warwickshire, have each found two brilliant, alternative properties with which to whet your travel appetite. And if you know a fantastic quirky stay somewhere that you think should be included, please comment in the box below – let’s share the knowledge!
As we hurtle towards the weekend I’m feeling the need for fun, fresh air and an ice cold gin and tonic (or three). Who’s with me?
Seth Lakeman, The Hexagon Reading, Sat 4 Mar
The West Countrys certainly produced a few musical hotties. Chris Martin for starters, Ben Howard and Seth Lakeman (pictured) – the poster boy of folk. Let’s be honest Seth’s not really a boy, more a man… with, er, three kids.
Happy St David’s Day! Happy Spring! Happy first day of the month! And happy days to one very lucky Muddy reader who is about to float off with a luxury weekend at Another Place The Lakes in Ulswater, The Lake District.
Thousands of you entered this one – I guess everyone needs a holiday! – but the winner is (*drum roll*)…
Congratulations to you lady.
One of the big benefits of Muddy tottering its way into so many counties (er, 17 since you asked!) is that we have a raft of on-the-ground experts, squirrelling out the coolest, most useful stuff for the rest of us to plunder. Case in point – beach cottages. Thought about renting one this summer? Yeah me too. So allow me to lay before you a sandy smorgasbord from the Muddy regional editors – 14 beautiful beach properties for the bucket and spade brigade.
Beach holidays in Britain always come with that anxious niggle at the back of your head – will it tank down for the whole week? Well, how about an inland lake or river holiday as an alternative? The Muddy editors who happen go to be landlocked (*sob**) have scoured their counties for some stonking rental properties with their own little piece of liquid heaven to tempt you throughout spring and summer. Tempted?
STAY IN… BERKSHIRE
River Arts Club, Maidenhead
Who needs the coast when you can have the mighty Thames?
