It’s taken me a while to find my groove with hairdressers. For ages, I used to sit down in the chair, nervously laugh and say ridiculous things like ‘oh, I’ll leave it up to you.’ I know. Nutcase.
This, as you can imagine, led to lots of *fun experiences* including a blonde pixie crop that made me look like Bart Simpson, many fringe-cutting disasters, bad colouring, bad perms and my childhood short back and sides (I have two brothers and my dad snipped our hair).
There are so many reasons to love Windsor, but if the castle, the shopping, the theatre, the river and the natural beauty of the area aren’t enough, here’s another one. S J Forbes opened just this summer on Peascod Street in this lovely building, and it’s been getting great reviews. I have heard from several moles who are fans of the original salon in Egham, Surrey, that it’s very good, so no surprise that I’ve been down to check it out.
I’m full of admiration for this little pocket rocket of a hair salon tucked away in Wokingham’s delightfully quirky Holme Grange Craft Village. First off, Gilded Hair won Best Hair Salon in the recent Muddy Berkshire Awards. Secondly, there’s nothing around here quite like it. A little space of follicular perfection, set in a modest, cosy space – no glitzy high street slickness here – suggesting nothing of the brilliance that lies inside.
I’ve spent a bit of time behind the scenes on Muddy recently checking out local salons, as I figured like me, you might be coming to the end of a frazzled summer with equally frazzled hair and looking for a chop and a change before school starts so you can swing up at the school gates in September looking fab-u-LOUS!
Obviously, I’ll only feature the ones I really think are of interest or value to readers, and given that I find a visit to the hair salon about as stressful as a root canal, I am very very choosy.
