Christmas gift ideas
A cosy wrap, a cool messenger bag for kids and funky ceramics made out of bricks! I’ve pulled my 5 favourite gift ideas from the exhibitors who’ll be at the Windsor Christmas Gift Fair from Thurs 17 to Sun 20 November at Royal Windsor Racecourse.
The Gift Fair is quite simply the answer to all your Christmas gift questions, with over 160 exhibitors selling a range of gifts from the fabulous to the quirky – you’ll find something to satisfy even the most difficult person to buy for on your list. There will be one-off jewellery pieces and accessories, cosy cashmere, seasonal stationery, wrapping paper and cards, fine foods from cheese to chocolate, beautiful children’s clothes and toys, gadgets, wine, decorations and more! Though surely, that’s enough?!
Plus, the organisers are offering Muddy readers a discounted ticket for the Exclusive Shopping Evening on Thursday 17 November which includes a glass of mulled wine, live music from Baubles and Warbles and Great British Bake Off whizz, Martha Collison will be signing copies of her book Twist. Tickets are £10.50 instead of £12.50, just use the code WCGF16MSTH when you book online. Happy shopping, and I’ll see you there for a mingle and a jingle!
1. Cool coloured vases
StolenForm specialises in recasting iconic urban features – bricks, manhole covers, drainpipes – and transforming them into functional and striking ceramics for the home. Far more exciting than your bog standard glass vase offering.
StolenForm, brick vase, £30
2. Keep calm, it’s gin o’clock
Described as, ’smoother than velvet slippers on a marble floor’, I think anyone would love a present as beautifully packaged as this, but it also happens to be award-winning too. 6 O’clock Gin from family-run business, Bramley & Gage, is a premium gin producing a smooth juniper flavour with a fine balance of botanicals including coriander, orange peel and elderflower. And let’s face it, it looks darn pretty too.
Bramley & Gage, 6 O’clock gin (70cl), £30
3. It’s a wrap
A cosy wrap for chilly evenings will go down a treat with your mum, sister or best friend, especially this one which thankfully veers away from standard ‘biscuit’ with a lovely block of colour. Meg & Marth are based just over the border in Wiltshire and choose only the best Italian cashmere products.
Meg & Marth, Cotswold wrap, £48
4. A rather lovely gift box
The Merry and Bright box from Box & Bow, is packed full of festive cheer with flavours of nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon, and even a sweet decoration idea for the table. Beautifully packaged, the boxes are letterbox sized so your friend won’t miss the parcel and you can keep the element of surprise. Others include The Sweetheart, The Gent, The Fashionista, The Act of Kindness and The Beauty Addict.
Box & Bow, The Merry and Bright Box, £20
5. The coolest messenger bag
Star Wars fever continues to rage on, so this retro Stormtrooper messenger bag from children’s gift and clothing shop, Biscuit Fridays, is a must-buy for any child who occasionally likes to dabble in the dark side (don’t they all?!).
Biscuit Fridays, retro Stormtrooper bag, £25
